THEATRE FOR EVERYONE!

Theatre de Schalm strives to make theatre visits accessible to everyone. That is why we try to remove as many barriers as possible during your afternoon or evening out.  Theatre is not just watching, but also hearing, feeling and experiencing in every genre.

We would be happy to tell you more about our possibilities:

Wheelchair users
The public areas of Theatre de Schalm are accessible to disabled people. In the Grote Zaal and the Lindenzaal, a number of places are available for wheelchair users. To reserve a wheelchair space, please contact the theatre box office (040-253 35 78). A disabled toilet is also available in our theatre.
Sign language interpreting / Hearing support
At selected performances, we offer sign language interpreters. In addition, hearing support is available at every performance (Audio Technica 3000 series), which works with headphones or can be connected to the hearing aid.
Blind interpreting
In cooperation with the Come and See Foundation, performances are made accessible to visitors with visual impairments. Click here for the list of performances with a blind interpreter.
Low-stimulus theatre
In the Netherlands, some 35% of the population suffers from overstimulation. In a low-incentive performance, the focus is on quietness around the performance, by providing a separate entrance, a foyer area without noise and music, and a quiet seating area in the auditorium. The selected performances are not necessarily low-incentive.
No Dutch Required
A number of performances in our program have been labeled 'No Dutch Required'. These shows can easily be understood by those who don't speak Dutch.

PARKING FOR DISABLED PEOPLE / TAXIBUS

Minneveld: There are 3 disabled parking spaces near the entrance to the Town Hall and Library. A disabled parking card is required here. You can go through the passage in the Town Hall from the Minneveld to the Meiveld where you will see the main entrance to De Schalm immediately on the left.

Geer car park: There are 4 disabled parking spaces in the car park, 2 under the Meiveld: at the level of the lift and 2 under the Minneveld: at the level of the lift. In parking garage Geer, parking in a disabled parking space is not free.

Taxi bus: if you come by taxi bus, it is best to drop yourself off at Minneveld and take the passage from City Hall to Meiveld.

GUIDE DOGS

Guide dogs can provide good support for many people with disabilities. These super dogs are therefore also allowed in our theatre.

MORE POSSIBILITIES

Together with you, we are happy to discuss how we can make an evening at the theatre even more enjoyable and accessible. The offer with sign language interpreter or blind interpreter is not fixed. Do you see a performance in our programme for which you could use an interpreter? Then contact us so we can discuss the possibilities.

Together we can make progress, so do you have any general tips for us, or ideas on how we can make your theatre visit more enjoyable? Then get in touch with us and send an email to bente.aalbers@deschalm.com.
