Dwight Dissels (1981) was born in Zaandam and grew up in a modal, Christian family. When young Dwight was 10 years old, his father died. In his teenage years, football and music were one outlet to cope with this grief.

Dutifully, he did attend church every Sunday with his two sisters. There he heard his mother singing in the church choir. But because the ball was more important to Dwight than God back then, he could often be found on his kicking field before the final chord.

This remained so until, at 19, he attended a gospel conference with some well-known American gospel singers. It was there that his life would change. The music and positive message of gospel fell over him like a warm blanket. Dwight traded in his football boots for a microphone and took singing lessons. The VHS videotape of gospel hero Donnie McClurkin was played endlessly in the Dissels' home. Dwight went on a mission...

He discovered the Christian philosophy his parents wanted to impart to him himself in the gospel lyrics. Dwight does not hide how he feels about life. He spoke openly and honestly about this on The Voice of Holland, regardless of how the audience would judge it. Dwight's starring role as Jesus, in The Passion of 2017, was a personal highlight for him. Yet this is not the most important thing for him.

Now that he has a family of his own, he understands that the search for a moral compass is different for everyone. And in doing so, Dwight is never really about being the artist Dwight is. Above all, he wants to be the father he never had himself. That he can still take a nice inswinging corner in addition to that is a nice touch.
